& 7pm Friday 12 July 2019 BLIND from birth, Indigenous singer/songwriter Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu is regarded as one of the most important artists ever to come out of Australia. Living a traditional Yolngu life, creating music inspired by his community on Elcho Island in the far northeast of Arnhem Land, Gurrumul shied away from the rewards and obligations that came with fame and notoriety. But with his unforgettable, soulful sound, he captivated audiences across the globe, playing for such luminaries as the Queen and Barack Obama. Using mesmerizing concert footage and intimate home videos, director Paul Damien Williams delivers a poignant portrait of a complex artist who left us just as the rest of the world was about to embrace him.
